The Endless Vermeer Cross Stitch Project

Below is a pictorial record of the progress I’ve made on my Vermeer’s Girl With a Pearl Earring cross-stitch project. When it is complete, it will likely be larger than the original painting. It will also have taken me years longer to finish it than it took Vermeer to paint it. It is not remotely easy to remain engaged in the project and already I itch to take on some new minor stitch projects or possibly a new outfit; particularly a bustle skirt so that I can take photos of the process for another post.

In any case, it is fascinating to see the progress of a work of cross-stitch unfold. Below are the photos starting with the most recent.
